Hikamt Salih Abdel-Hameed, is a 33 years old Palestinian farmer who owns three dunums (0.75 acres). According to Hikmat, caring for the land is essential for Palestinian identity, heritage, and memory, as well as for their economic, environmental, and political well-being. Taking care of the land is a form of resistance to Israel's occupation of Palestine, which has resulted in the confiscation of Palestinian land, making access to and use of Palestinian land difficult. Palestinians assert their right to self-determination and sovereignty by caring for the land. Hikmat received 70 olive trees from the Olive Tree Campaign in order to protect the land.
Beit Duqqu is a village in the Jerusalem governorate, located about 9 kilometers northwest of the city of Jerusalem. It shares borders with Beit Anan, Al-Tira (Ramallah Governorate), Beit Ijza, Al-Jib, and Al-Qubeiba. According to the 2007 census, the village had a population of 1461 people, with 308 households and 370 housing units. Beit Duqqu covers approximately 5,512 dunums (1362 acres) of land, with 3606 dunums (891 acres) being arable and 206 dunums (51 acres) being residential. The agricultural sector faces several challenges, including a lack of capital, economic feasibility, high fodder and livestock prices, and limited water sources. Following the 1995 accords, 10.6% of the village land was classified as Area B, while 89.4 % was classified as Area C. Unfortunately, Israel has taken land from Beit Duqqu to build the Israeli colony (settlement) of 'Giv'at Ze'ev'.
