Fathi Ahmad Ziqan, is a 41 years old Palestinian farmer, comes from a family of seven memebrs, and owns eight dunums (2 acres) of land in Salfit. According to Fathi, olive trees hold a special place in the hearts of all Palestinians. Since thousands of years old olive trees tie our people to their land in one of the richest and most beautiful living symbols of Palestinian identity and cultural history, they are not only an economic lifeline, but also a symbol of resilience and political resistance. He was able to stay on his land due to the Olive Tree Campaign, which supported him with 100 olive trees.
Salfit is a vital Palestinian city in the West Bank, famous for its political and agricultural significance. Its population of around 10,911 people reside in an area of 23,062 square kilometers, and the city's agricultural production is a major contributor to Palestine's economy. The city's land is mostly used for olive farming, with 90% of its arable land planted with olive trees, producing 12% of Palestine's total olive oil production. However, Israeli settlements built partially or wholly on Salfit's land have created numerous challenges, reducing available farming areas, releasing wild boars that damage crops, and causing sewage water to flow into Salfit. Additionally, the high cost of fodder has led to a decline in livestock, impacting the city's agricultural sector and livelihood.
