Ammar Omar Rayyan, is a 37 years old Palestinian farmer, a father of five children. Ammar states that caring for the land and planting olive trees is critical because it is a form of peaceful resistance and determination that we will remain in this land and never leave it. The Olive Tree Campaign provided Amar with 120 olive trees to help protect his land.
Qarawat Bani Hassan is a town situated in the Salfeet Governorate in Palestine, about 8.9 km northwest of Salfeet city. As per the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics' 2007 census, the town has a population of 3,752 people residing in 669 households and 732 housing units, with an altitude of 391 m above sea level. Qarawat Bani Hassan covers an area of approximately 9,445 dunums (2334 acres), out of which 6,582 dunums (1626 acres) are arable land. However, the town's agricultural sector encounters various challenges, such as a lack of funding for agricultural projects, difficulty in marketing agricultural produce, land confiscation by Israeli forces, repeated attacks on farmland and machinery by settlers, and limited access to agricultural lands due to poor roads. Israel has confiscated a total of 341 dunums (84 acres) from Qarawat Bani Hassan, with 174 dunams (43 acres) taken for the Israeli colonies (settlements) of "Kiryat Netafim" and 167 dunums (41 acres) for "Barkan" colony.
